Roman J. Lampe Sr., 95, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Stonehill Care Center.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Raphael's Cathedral from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas Toale officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors by the Bellevue American Legion Post #273 and the LaMotte Knights of Columbus. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is in charge of arrangements.

Roman was born on March 17, 1920, in St. Donatus, Iowa the son of Leroy and Theresa (Herrig) Lampe. He married Anne Marie Koch on October 3, 1945, at Fillmore Catholic Church.

Roman served in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific, in the Philippines and New Guinea, as an infantry man serving with the Red Arrow Division. When Roman returned from service, he started working for the Adams Company. In 1949 he began employment at John Deere Dubuque Works. He retired from John Deere after 27 years of employment. Roman was a member of the UAW Local #94, the Bellevue American Legion Post #273, and the LaMotte Knights of Columbus. For many years he was very active in the St. Donatus Parish organizing, planning, and helping make sausage for the Pancake and Sausage Breakfast.

Roman enjoyed dancing, playing cards with family and friends, watching game shows and ballgames. After retiring, there were not too many mornings that he missed the local gossip at Kalmes Restaurant.

Roman is survived by his wife Anne Marie; six children Roman Jr. (Mary Jane) of Dubuque, Lynn (Janet) of Dubuque, Steven (Dena) of Dubuque, Marianne (Dan) Weber, of St. Donatus, Philip (Linda) of Dubuque and Janice of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and three siblings Maurice (Dorothy), Nester and Earl (Juan) all of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings Monica, Robert, and Johanna.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and Stonehill Care Center (especially Julie and Roxanne) for taking such wonderful care of dad while he was at Stonehill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dubuque, Stonehill Care Center, and Divine Word Seminary.
