Rose Mary Asbury

Rose Mary Asbury, 80, of Dubuque passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road with Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Friends may call from 4:30 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Rose was born on August 8, 1937, in Maquoketa, Iowa the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Noonan) O’Connell. She married Ray W. Asbury Jr. and he preceded her in death on July 23, 2003. Rose worked at the former Blackhawk Industries and Barnstead Thermolyne for many years and lastly at the Dog Track & Casino. She was always there when ever anyone needed help and enjoyed being with family.

She is survived by her daughter Tamara Steele; grandson Tyler (Andrea) Steele; granddaughter, Meghan Bernat; great granddaughter, Ember Rose Steele; step children Mark (Chris) Asbury, Sally (Loren) Wood and Peggy Asbury; step grandchildren, Adam Asbury, Carla Cloos, and Nick Dean and a sister Loretta Shanahan along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray; a step son Joel; and siblings and in-laws, James (Maxine) O’Connell, Ed (Patsy) O’Connell, Patrick (Margie) O’Connell, Eileen Fassbinder, Eleanor (Charles) Slattery, and Francis Shanahan.

A Rose Mary Asbury memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank all the Doctors Nurses and Staff of Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital for all the care they gave to Rose.
