Russell James Gaherty

Russell James Gaherty, 61, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on March 2nd, 2018 at home.

According to his wishes a celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.

Russell was born on February 12, 1957 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Russell and Marie (Ward) Gaherty. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and was self-employed in Breckenridge and Denver Colorado and lastly in Dubuque and operated his own Roofing Company for 27 years.

Russ was an honorary member of the BARF Club “Bogie at Richman’s Farm” Brotherhood Association, and the Leaky Lodge. In 1969 he received the Custodial Engineer of the Year award at Nativity School.

Russ is survived by his siblings, Curt (Judy) Gaherty, of Dubuque, Pat (Carolyn) Gaherty, of Parker, CO, Tim (Pat) Gaherty, of Dubuque, Karil Lauren, of Tulsa, OK, and Karin Kieffer, of Dubuque. He was a wonderful uncle to five nieces and 8 nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Russell on January 20, 1957 and his mother Marie on March 27, 2008.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque especially his caregivers Edna, Jan and Jennie. Special thanks to Curt and Judy for having a place at their table for the holidays, where there was family galore.  

Russ would always end a phone call with; “I will keep you informed, peace and love.”
