Sharon Rose (Gassman) Sweeney

Sharon Rose (Gassman) Sweeney, 73, of Dubuque, died on Monday, September 18, 2017, at home.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at Holy Family Church, New Melleray. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church until time of mass. A celebration of her life will also be held at The Grand River Center in the Glass River Room from 1:00 p.m.to 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 22nd, all are welcome.

Sharon was born on August 16, 1944, in Bernard, IA, daughter of Dorance & Deloras (Stoffel) Gassman.

Sharon graduated from the Visitation Academy, and was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church where she helped cook the Oktoberfest meal for 13 years. Sharon started her career as an OR Tech at Mercy, eventually segueing to the business world working for Prudential. 

After retirement Sharon became the Activities Director at Bell Tower Retirement in East Dubuque, IL where she made many friends and enjoyed helping the residents to be comfortable and enjoy their time to the fullest. Sharon truly adored her work there.

Sharon is survived by her children, Thomas (Melissa) Haupert, of Anthem, AZ, Terrence Haupert, of East Troy, WI, Stephen (Michelle) Haupert, of Dubuque, IA, Deb (Derek) Monnig, of Coppell, TX, and Bill Sweeney, of Janesville, WI; and grandchildren Addie Haupert, Tyler and Tessa Haupert, Rowan Monnig and Cole and Callie Sweeney; and her brother, Harry (Lois) Gassman, of Dubuque, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Francis Fritz Sweeney, and twin brothers John and Joseph Gassman. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank Sharon’s many neighbors that helped out when needed and the medical professionals at Mercy Medical Center & Mercy Home Health Care for their outstanding service in Sharon’s final months.
