SISTER EMILIANA MEISSEN, OSF, 94, of the Clare House, Dubuque, Iowa, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Dubuque, Iowa.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Francis Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00–7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 with Funeral Vigil at 7:00 p.m. in Francis Chapel.
Sister Emiliana was born on October 28, 1923 in Lawler, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hormisch) Meissen. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis August 25, 1941 and made final profession of vows August 10, 1947. Sister attended school in Lawler, IA. She was missioned in Chicago, Illinois at Corpus Christi Primary; in Iowa at St. Edward in Waterloo, at St. Mary in Cascade, and at Sacred Heart, Immaculate Conception Academy, Immaculate Conception Convent, and Stonehill Franciscan Services in Dubuque.
Sister is survived by nieces, nephews, and her Franciscan sisters with whom she shared over 75 years of her life.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents; sister Rose Klepper; brothers Joseph (Virginia) Meissen, Ray (Barbara) Meissen, and John “Jack” (Leona) Meissen.
Memorials may be given to the Sisters of St. Francis, Dubuque, IA.
