Sonya was born on December 12, 1948 in Cascade IA, the daughter of Alice M Klostermann and the late Melvin Breitbach.

Sonya was employed at the Sisters of Charity Mt Carmel, Dubuque IA retiring in 2014. She had a strong desire to serve disabled and elderly residents with compassion and kindness as well as a double bonus of enjoying her friends with a wonderful camaraderie rapport.

Sonya had a wide variety of interest from camping and fishing with her family, snuggling up with a good mystery book from Danielle Steel, a bird watcher enthusiast showing such excitement when a new species arrived within the many seasons of the Midwest, enjoying numerous cookouts with family and friends at which time she was known for making her infamous side dish of potato salad that surely will be missed by all. As a young mother, she started collecting salt & pepper shakers that grew into an enormous display of showcase shaker novelties behind glass to admire. Last but not least dear to her heart from this “matriarch” of the family were their two Pugs, Molly and Maggie.

Surviving are her pride and joy and beloved sons: Shane J. Kedley of Dubuque IA, Marty R. Kedley (partner Kimmie) of Dubuque IA, Jamie L. Kedley of Madison WI, and Robbie J. Hess of Dubuque IA; 1 granddaughter, Ivy Kedley of Madison WI, her long life partner of 32 years Kenny Hess, her mother Alice Klostermann of Monticello IA. Sonya will also be missed very much by her siblings: Melvin Breitbach of Monticello IA, Judy (Galen) Harms of Anamosa IA, George Breitbach of Vinton IA, Mary (Lee) Hinderman of Davenport IA, Chuck Breitbach (partner Sandy) of Dubuque IA, Geri Gorman of Cedar Rapids IA, Geralyn (partner Vinnie)Puccio of Cedar Rapids IA, Kenny’s children: Dan (Cindy) Hess, Jim Hess, and Stacy (Newel) Marcov all of Dubuque IA. Sonya is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special Godmother, Ida Breitbach of Cascade IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband(s) Ray Kedley and Danny Hess respectively; her father, Melvin Breitbach, and her beloved Pug Molly.
