Thomas J. Cox, Jr. 91 of Dubuque Passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center.


Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 5th at St. Raphael Cathedral with Rev. Alan Dietzenbach officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 Thursday, February 4, 2016 at The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be held at 5:00 p.m.
  

Tom was born on January 11, 1925 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Thomas Joseph Cox Sr. and Winifred Viola Morgan. He graduated from Dubuque Senior high School. Tom married Shirley Ann Roggensack on October 18, 1947 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque.

 

In his early years he worked for Higley Chemical Company as a salesman and also worked for John Deere company in Dubuque. He then operated Cox Construction where he specialized in commercial and residential building and remodeling.
  

Tom loved to go on short daytime drives in the country with his wife Shirley, and in the evening dinner and dancing at various supper clubs around the Dubuque Area. Tom and Shirley were known for their beautiful dance steps that began at the old Melody Mill Dance Hall. When not devoting time to Shirley, Tom loved to spend time with his seven brothers and one sister playing Euchre and enjoying family outings.
  

He is survived by his children; Linda (Ron) Rusch, of Dubuque, Larry (Judy) Cox, of Mays Landing, NJ, William (Janet) Cox, of Elmwood, IL, and Nanette (Jim) Treanor, of Dubuque. His grandchildren; Christy Miller, Jesse (Jennifer) Rusch, Ryan (Christina) Cox, Shara (Steve) Silver, Rachel Treanor; seven great grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Cox and Paul Cox.
  

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, a daughter Diane, sister Dorothy, brothers Cletus, Louis, Roger, James, and Hugh.
  

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Bell Tower Retirement Community for the loving care and support they provided.
  

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Thomas Cox memorial fund.
