Thomas L. Meyers 71, of Durango passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2015.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 23rd, 2015 at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Church with Rev. John Kissling officiating.   Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Dubuque Marine Corp League. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a parish wake service will be held at 3:00 p.m.

Tom was born on April 25, 1943, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Paul and Viola (Olinger) Meyers. Tom served in the USMC from August 1961 to April 1964.  He married Peg Kissling in 1994.

Tom graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School in 1961. After graduation he joined the military. Upon his return home, he worked at John Deere 30 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed many years growing up and working on the Riniker farm helping with field work and repairing machinery as needed. He also spent every Friday morning bonding with his siblings over coffee and donuts. You could also find him having breakfast 3 mornings a week with his good friend, Mac or hanging out in the driveway with Donnie and Jerry, having a Pepsi, talking about the good old days.

He is survived by his wife Peg, son Tom (fiancé Traci Schmitt) Meyers, of Sherrill, IA, Paula (Ted) Lenaerts, of Cedar Falls, IA, stepsons, Jim (Nancy) Francois, of Mitchellville, IA, Tim Francois, of Cheyenne, WY, Jeff Francois, of Twin Lakes, WI, stepdaughter, Lisa Federspiel Peosta, IA. Grandchildren, Sami Jo, and Brady Meyers, of Dubuque, IA, TJ, Alex, and Madison Lenaerts, of Cedar Falls, IA. Step grandchildren, Jenna and Ava Francois, of Mitchellville, IA, Matthew, Michael, and Danielle Federspiel, of Peosta, IA, Derek Francois, of Omaha, NE and Bryce Francois, of Cheyenne, WY. Brothers; Jack (Frances) Meyers, of Oceanside, CA, Paul Meyers, of Dubuque, IA, Bob (Sylvia) Meyers, of Dubuque, IA, Dick (Ginny) Meyers, of Dubuque, IA. Sisters, Dorothy (Don) Link, of Carson City, NV, Delly (Dick) Morris, of Urbandale, IA, Mary Katherine “Butch” Meyers, of Dubuque, IA, sister-in-law Margaret Meyers, of Dubuque, sisters-in-law, Jacque (Chuck) Rutledge, of Fulton, IL, Soni Hudspeth, of Dubuque, IA, Sandy (Mike) Ernsdorff, of Dubuque, IA, Sue (Marv) Bennett, of Hazel Green, WI and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Don Meyers, Sisters-in-law, Pearl Meyers, Harriet Meyers, and Ruth Meyers. Step son-in-law, Dan Federspiel.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hermann’s office at Dubuque Internal Medicine, Traci of Finley Home Health Care and Amy M. of Hospice of Dubuque for all the care you have given Tom. And a special thanks to his family and friends for your support during this time.

Memorials may be given to Holy Spirit Parish/Holy Ghost or Hospice of Dubuque.
