William “Bill” Latimer, 81 of 1440 Mount Pleasant died Sunday April 5, 2015, at home with his family by his side.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Church of the Nativity with Msgr. James Miller officiating, a parish rosary will be recited before mass. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call from 3 to 8 on Tuesday, April 7 2015 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with a parish wake service at 8 p.m.

 

Bill was born on July 13, 1933, in Dubuque the son of Edward and Hilda (Brown) Latimer. He married Mary Mulligan on October 13, 1956 at Saint Columbkille Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2012.

 

Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War, He worked for the former Dubuque Packing Co, FDL Foods and Farmland Foods until his retirement after 44 years in the meatpacking Industry. He was a member of the UFCW Local 150A and the Amvets.

 

Bill loved golfing and was a member of Lacoma Golf and Country Club. He also worked at Lacoma as a Golf Course Ranger and was a courtesy driver for Anderson Weber Motors.

 

Faith and family were most important to Bill and he showed it by his love and devotion to his wife Mary.

 

He is survived by his children Bill (Sara) Latimer, Jr. of Monroe, WI, Jay (Terri) Latimer, of Clear Lake, Iowa, Linda Decker, Tim (Cathy) Latimer, and Mike (Katie) Latimer, all of Dubuque; grandchildren Katie (Nick) Hanten, Patrick Latimer, Ryan Latimer, Carlee Latimer, Taylor Latimer, Sarah Latimer, Joe Latimer, Kailee Latimer, Ben Latimer, and Anna Latimer; two great grandchild Chloe and Connor Hanten; two sisters Jannan (Richard) Wachter of Dubuque and Mary Ellen (Ward) Mickelson of Lake Placid, FL.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife and a daughter Lucille, a granddaughter Samantha and sister’s Marcie Heer and Patricia Maury.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Nativity Church or Hospice of Dubuque.

 

The family would like to thank all the health care professionals especially Dr. Christian Schultheis and Hospice of Dubuque especially Edna, Peggy and Nicole, and to Bill’s many friends who came to visit, especially Jack and Joe, all of your thoughts, care and prayers will never be forgotten.
