Donna Schmidt

Donna Schmidt, 75, of Durango Iowa passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:40 p.m. at Hawkeye Care Center surrounded by her loving family after battling health issues for the last year. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dubuque, Iowa with Fr. Steven Garner Officiating.   Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home Dubuque & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Iowa with a wake service at 3:45 p.m. 

Donna was born on the family farm June 22, 1948, to Clarence and Emma (Ellerbach) Schultz of Holy Cross.  She graduated from Leo High School in 1967. On September 23rd, 1967, she married Robert Schmidt at the Holy Cross Church.    

Robert and Donna lived in North Buena Vista for many years before moving to Dubuque and then to Durango.  Donna worked at Flexsteel Industries for over 30 years and worked part-time at ITC in Peosta.  Donna was a very hard worker from a young age working on the farm, to raising chickens after getting married.  She enjoyed playing softball for the Holy Cross town team with her sisters.  She loved cutting grass, gardening outside, camping, quilting and playing cards with her family and friends.  She loved going out to supper with her work lady friends and birthday meals.  She had a heart full of love for her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband  of 56 years, Robert of Durango, IA; her five children Barbara (Danny) Hess of Edgewood, Carla (Randy) Hess of Dubuque, Peggy Ostrander (Brick Jones) of Forney, Texas, Tommy Schmidt (Kimberly Rawson) of Elkader, Patrick (Ashley) Schmidt of Dubuque; fourteen grandchildren, Austin (Alison) Hess, Hanna (Ryan) Jaster, Joshua (Kerry) Brimeyer, Shelby (Riley) Duehr, Shawn (Sara) Ostrander, Jason Jones, Whitney Jones, Zach Jones, Paige Jones, Malerie Schmidt, Montanna Schmidt, Monica Schmidt, Lily Schmidt and Sawyer Schmidt.  13 great grandchildren with two on the way. Siblings Connie Klein, Ron (Marilyn) Schultz, Sherry (Mickey) Klein, Cindy (Paul) Ludovissy; sister-in-law Nancy Schultz; in-laws Vern Schmidt, Bonnie (Jeff) Avenarius, Daryl (Fran) Schmidt, Kim (Sam) Runde and Rose (Steve) Zmuda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Janice LeGrand, LaVonne Brimeyer, Carol Errthum, brother, David Schultz, brothers-in law, Robert LeGrand, Nick Errthum, Earl Brimeyer, Jimmy Klein, in laws Leonard and Anna Schmidt, Chery Schmidt, Angie Schmidt, Judy Schmidt, and grandchild Molly Schmidt.
