Inez Nutt Obituary

Inez Dorothy (Lansing) Nutt, 87, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away on April 23, 2024, at Four Winds Manor with loving family by her side.  Beloved wife of 63 years to Charles H. Nutt.  Loving mother to her six children, William, Kathryn, Ann, James, Teresa, and Mary. Cherished grandmother and great-grandmother to many dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, Iowa, with a wake service at 6:45 p.m. Additional visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Steve Garner officiating.  The burial will follow mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Inez was born on April 9, 1937, the daughter of the late Fredoline (Remke) and Walter Lansing.  She was the sixth born of nine children, and grew up on the family farm in Ossian, Iowa.  She was educated in the St. Francis de Sales Catholic School system, where she was a talented player on the girls’ high school basketball team.  She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa in 1957, and went to work as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in the Obstetrics Department until 1960.  She met her husband Charlie, while living in Dubuque, and they married on May 14, 1960, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dubuque.  After their wedding, they moved to the San Francisco, California area where Charlie worked for United Airlines, and Inez worked at St. Joseph’s and Peninsula Hospitals in the newborn nursery.  After relocating to Minneapolis, Minnesota and St. Louis, Missouri, they settled in Montgomery, Minnesota, for most of their lives, building two homes there: one for the children growing up and later a beautiful retirement home.  Inez returned to nursing as an evening nurse and supervisor at Mala Strana Nursing Home in New Prague, Minnesota after all the children were in school.  She was an extraordinarily caring and compassionate nurse.

Inez was devoted to her Catholic faith.  She lived her life in selfless commitment to her family, her richest career being that of mother and homemaker.  She was a gifted baker, mentoring many with her cinnamon roll recipe and talents that will be passed along through generations.  She was an avid gardener, tending to both flower and vegetable gardens, and canning bountiful fruits and vegetables.  She enjoyed traveling with Charlie on many trips to Europe and Hawaii, and cherished visits with their children and grandchildren across the country. She was a lifelong fan of basketball and enjoyed watching women’s college basketball games, especially during March Madness each year.

Inez is survived by her husband Charles, six children: William (Rita) Nutt of Palm Coast, FL, Kathryn (Steven) Skipper of Herndon, VA, Ann (Steven) Ebert of Madison, WI, James (Pam) Nutt of Eureka, MO, Teresa (Brian) Kohlbeck of St. Paul, MN, and Mary Nutt of Eagan, MN, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Inez also is survived by her sisters Patty McCabe, Gladys Didesch, Geri Maloy and brothers-in-law Terrence Cobry and Robert Pankow.  In addition to her parents, Inez was preceded in death by her sisters Betty Welter, Rosalind Henneberry, Esther Cobry, Vi Pankow, her brother Lawrence Lansing, as well as her brothers-in-law John Welter, Arthur McCabe, Al Didesch, Melvin Henneberry, Michael Maloy and sister-in-law Arlene Lansing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois.

The Family extends their sincere appreciation to Agrace Hospice Care and the staff at Four Winds Manor in Verona, Wisconsin for their kind and loving care of Inez.
