Maurice Jones III

On March 22nd, 2024, Maurice Jones, III passed peacefully and suddenly in his hometown of Dubuque, Iowa. He was born in Dubuque on September 18th, 2012, and passed away March 22nd, 2024.

Although Maurice spent his life in Dubuque, Iowa, he visited many cities like Chicago, IL, Minneapolis, MN, & Atlanta, GA. During these visits, he was very inquisitive about the cities, particularly their origins and their development.  Maurice was naturally curious about the world, and he desired to explore as much as he could. An example of this is he always wanted to learn new things which led him to become quite fond of problem-solving. This fact drove him to play with toys such as ROBLOX, which is a toy where he would use his imagination to develop and plan cities that included buildings, parks, schools, and shopping centers.  He was also fond of the game Uno, a card game with the goal to match colors until one player has no cards remaining. In addition to Maurice’s creative side, he loved to eat.  One of his favorite foods was hot chicken, and he would request to visit the Pizza Ranch in Dubuque, on Radford Road for some of their amazing chicken.  He spent his summers entertaining his sisters and cousins, while sometimes visiting his best friend, Tristen.

Maurice was an adventurer, very curious and inquisitive. He was a thinker and technologist.  He was precocious.  He was brilliant.  In the words of his cousin, he could hang with the adults and chat about whatever, concepts or abstract things, and then he would go off and say, “Ok, I’m gonna go and do kid stuff now”.  He attended Prescott Elementary School, where he met some of his closest friends, who would attest to his great sense of humor, as he would frequently suggest to them to “stop capping on my name”.

Maurice is survived by his mother, Umanique Rogers and his father, Maurice Jones, II;  maternal grandmother, Marilyn Gail Bryant; paternal grandmother, Cherie Peterson; maternal grandfather, Charles Douglas Rogers; paternal grandfather, Maurice Jones; maternal aunts, Alicia Rogers and Shamanique Rogers; paternal aunt, Shaniqua Hamp; maternal uncle, Charles Douglas Rogers, Jr; paternal uncles, Cardell Smith, and Cornelius Peterson. Siblings: Yanara Stone, Sha’Lela Naylor, Sha’Layla Naylor, Maur’A Jones, Neveah Nathaniel, Na’Miyah Nathaniel, Na’Kiyah Nathaniel, Mauryayla Jones, and Mauryilah Jones as well as tons of family and friends who love him dearly and will miss him greatly.
