Patricia "Pat" Morgan Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Morgan of Dubuque, IA. 83, went to be with the angels on April 20th, 2024 with her daughter Robin holding her hand until the very end.   Even though she could not open her eyes or speak, her final act of love on this earth was a single tear to let her daughter know that she knew that Robin was there and that she was loved. You will be forever missed and in the hearts of the people who loved you best.

Private family services will take place at a later date with burial at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.

Pat was born October 11, 1940 in Dubuque. In her younger years she sewed, crocheted, was always an avid reader. She loved her crossword puzzles and animals, she never met a stray, she was always taking them in.

Pat’s first career was at Eagle Foods in Dubuque IA. She started out as a cashier at the store on Asbury Rd. and eventually opened and managed the Bakery/Deli at the JFK location. She retired after 20 years.

Pat’s second career was in the insurance industry servicing both personal lines and business accounts. She finally retired after 20 years but continued to work part-time until her Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2010.

Pat’s greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren Nick and Sarah as they grew up to be adults. Even though her other grandchildren did not live close by she made sure to keep in contact with them through the years.

Even as Pat declined with Alzheimer's she always had a smile, and she never met a stranger often striking up conversations with anyone she encountered.   Even though she couldn’t remember her daughter Robin’s name or understand the family relationship, her face always brightened, and she would have the biggest smile when Robin came to visit.  She also loved it when her great-granddaughter Scarlett would come to visit her and play catch with a balloon or ball.

Pat is survived by her daughter Robin Meyer-Barfield of Dubuque, her son Mark (Kris) Meyer of Stewart TN; ex-husband Jimmy Meyer of Dubuque; grandchildren, Nick (Sarah) Julson of Leesburg Al, Sarah Lafferty of Dubuque, Staci (John) Dvorak of Marion, IA, Amy Johnson of Manhattan KS, Michelle Meyer of Dubuque and Mark Meyer Jr of Stewart TN.; eight great-grandchildren including Scarlett who was very close with Pat; siblings Ed (Liz) Morgan of Galena, IL, Thomas (Barb) Morgan of Orlando FL, Kathy (Randy) Ingraham of Tarpon Springs, FL, Matt (Susan) Morgan of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Davis Barfield Jr, her parents, Thomas and Evelyn Morgan, her sister Major General Mary Morgan (Army) and brother Richard Morgan.

The family would like to give special thanks to Matt and Susan Morgan for all the love, care and the sacrifices they made to care for Pat when she and Robin’s family moved back to Dubuque from Georgia. It takes special people to care for others when they are ill. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at sunset park place memory unit where Pat resided for her last 2 ½ years. Special thanks to Nick, Lacy, Katie and Barb, you are the best ever.

Special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque for the extra eyes on Pat as she progressed through the stages of her Alzheimer's and in her final days.
