Carl W. Witter, 90 years old, of Bethany Home went to be in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on November 22, 2017 at 9:20 a.m. at Bethany Home with family by his side.

A private family wake and Christian funeral service will be held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, on Friday, December 1st, 2017 with a flag presentation by the American Legions Post #6. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.  

Carl was born on June 23, 1927 in Dubuque, IA the son of Carl & Esther (Schoenbeck) Witter. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School and attended the University of Dubuque. 

He went on to serve in the US Navy during World War II.    Carl married Carmelita Till of Bellevue, IA on October 16, 1950 in Bellevue, IA.  He began his career at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, IA and then spent many years working as an Engineer for John Deere Dubuque Works. He ended his career working for Coors in Denver Colorado.

Carl was a member of the American Legion and The Church of the Resurrection.  Carl was a man of great faith.  He was a craftsman and taught all of his children work ethic, how to solve problems, and the power of prayer.  He was a humble man with a witty sense of humor. He loved the art of aviation, which included building and flying model airplanes. He also enjoyed boating on the river and spending time with his family.  

He is survived by his loving wife Carmelita of 67 years; 9 children, Bruce (Janet) Witter from Irving, TX, Gary (Sherrie) Witter from Marion, IA, David (Michelle) Witter from Dubuque, IA, Kathy (Mike) Knake from Bellevue, IA, Vickie (Robert) LaGrotta from Bellevue, IA, Cindy (Tony) Reed from Avada, CO, Jeff (Sarah) Witter from Springville, IA, Kristi (Jude) Sabers-Sullivan from Verona, WI, and Curt Witter from Arlington, TX, 29 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren; sister Dorothy Herzog from Rice Lake, WI; and sister-In-Law, Linda (Ron) Ruden from Dubuque, IA

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Esther Witter, his mother and father in-law, Louis and Loretta Till, sister Marilyn Grashorn from Bethany Home 3 days prior, her husband Dale; sister Rosemary and husband CO Lamp; and brother in law Bob Herzog and two grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Bethany Home or Hospice.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful, caring staff at Bethany Home and the services of Hospice of Dubuque.
