Charles Michael Gavin

Charles Michael Gavin, age 67, of Glendale, California (formerly Dubuque, Iowa) passed away March 5, 2019. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 25, 1951, to Daniel and Grace (Cejka) Gavin. Charles attended school in Dubuque, Iowa, and Sinsinawa, Wisconsin.  He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.

Charles drove bus for the City of Dubuque and the Los Angeles Unified School District until his retirement in 2013.

Education was very important to Charles and he spent much of his time researching a variety of topics.  A friend found Charlie to be very intelligent and a joy to talk to.  Albert Einstein – Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.  He will be missed.

Charles is survived by his brothers; Dan Gavin of Waterloo, Iowa, Tim (Lou Ann) Gavin of Dubuque, Iowa.  Five nieces; Theresa (Mark) Searles, Carissa (Diego) De Cadena, Alisa Gavin, Kristina (Pat) Bigsby, Bethann (Craig) Heidgerken and two nephews; Tim Gavin, Patrick (Kaley) Gavin.  Nine great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his aunt Blanche Cejka.

Committal prayers will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Rev. Steven Garner officiating. Military honors will follow by the Iowa Army National Guard and the VFW Post 788. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is assisting the family.
