Welcome to the memorial page for

Christopher E. Schreyer

October 6, 2017

Christopher E. Schreyer, 42, died peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family on Friday, October 6.  After being diagnosed with lung cancer this summer, his last months were spent enjoying time with his family and friends while showing his strong and resilient spirit.

A celebration of his life will be held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road in Dubuque, on Thursday, October 12th, 2017  from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friends may gather at Happy’s Place immediately following.

Chris was born in Dubuque on November 26, 1974 to Bernie and Deb (Duccini) Schreyer, and became a wonderful big brother to Jonathan and Tim. On March 5, 2002, Chris married his childhood sweetheart, Carrie Fagan. He was a very proud dad to two sons, Nicholas and Nathan. He was also a mentor to many as owner of a local metal fabricating business, Performance Fabrication, and welding instructor at Northeast Iowa Community College. His work can be seen throughout the community, including the ironwork at Bee Branch, Carnegie Stout Public Library, and Eagle Point Park. Chris enjoyed riding his motorcycle; motorsports; and spending time working on projects and playing with his boys.

Chris is lovingly remembered by his family: wife, Carrie; children, Nicholas and Nathan; parents, Bernie and Deb; brothers, Jonathan (Jessica) and Timothy (Anne); in-laws Kevin, Pam, and Trisha Fagan; and aunts, uncles, nephews and niece. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

The family would like to thank Chris’ medical team and Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions can be made to the Chris Schreyer fund at Dubuque Bank and Trust.
