Donald Kritz Obituary

Donald Lynn “Don” Kritz, 86, of Dubuque, IA passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque with Sr. Margaret Ann Kramer, PBVM officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A short service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Don was born on July 29, 1931 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of James Louis and Lola Anita (Lee) Kritz. He Graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1949 and attended the University of Dubuque and Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. On June 14, 1958 he married Gloria Even at Saint Anthony Catholic Church.

He started his working career as a young newspaper boy, later working at Landon Furriers and Lange Plastics, before he began his career at John Deere Dubuque Works as a Design Engineer where he worked until retirement in June 1986. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Gloria, a daughter Kristin (Mark) Friederick of East Dubuque, a son Kyle (Lisa) Kritz of Dubuque, four grandchildren Mitchel and Jenna Friederick and Alexis and Anna Kritz, two great grandchildren Skyla and Sven Friederick, two sisters Carol Shaffer of CA, Joyce Moore of VA, and three brothers Roy (Judy) Kritz of AZ, and Roger and Paul Kritz both of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Kritz Jr.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital especially the Emergency Room, ICU Unit and 5th Floor Medical unit along with Chaplin James Mehltretter, for all the care and kindness they gave to Don and his family.
