Donat Oliver Lafond, 78 of Dubuque, passed away on Monday March 18th, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:00a.m. Thursday March 21st at Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Dwayne Thoman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with Military Detail accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. Friends may call from 4p.m. to 7p.m. on Wednesday March 20th, 2013 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd where there will be a wake service at 6:30p.m.
He was born on December 26, 1934 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the son of Donat & Bernadette (Comtois) Lafond. He attended Precious Blood High School, in Holyoke, and is a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran.
Donat met & married Susan Defendi at the U. S. Naval Base and married in the chapel, in Jacksonville, Florida on October 10, 1959.
The Lafond family returned to the Dubuque area in 1970. Donat was a chef
& baker. He worked at Bishops Buffet, Hotel Julien, The Bakers Oven &
Stiliman Manor in Galena, Holy Family Hall & after retirement at Grand
View Pre-school.
He is survived by his wife Susan, children; Ann (Joe) Kirk, Lia Lafond, Meg (Steve)
Greenwood, Frank Lafond, all of Dubuque & Eva, (R.J. Jansa) Egr, of Weston,
Nebraska. Grandchildren: Sara (Robb) Johnson, Joseph (Deeana Blackwood) Kirk, Kyle (Alice Klinkhammer), Hope & Tessa Greenwood & Maggie Elkin. Great-grandchildren; Izzac Kirk, Andrew Johnson, Patience, Deztiney & Lylah Kirk. Many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents Donat & Bernadette, father & mother-in-law, Frank & Susan Defendi, sisters Germaine Smith Auger & Constance Boutot. Brothers-in-law William Smith, Charles Auger & Edgar Boutot. Brother and sister-in-law Frank & Beth DeFendi.
