Dorrance R. Bakey, 75 of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Monday December 2nd, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00a.m. on Friday December 6th at St. Raphael Cathedral with Rev. Daniel Knepper officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3p.m. to 8p.m. on Thursday December 5th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd where there will be a wake service at 4:00p.m.
He was born on December 4, 1937 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of John C. and Calista (Murphy) Bakey. He attended St. Raphael grades school. Loras Academy and graduated from Loras College.
He worked at Mount St. Francis in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Raphael Cathedral, Power of Prayer Church and he loved his roses.
He is survived by his siblings; Jean “Jeanie” Grimes, Betty Schuster, Patricia “Pat” (Dorrance) Manders, all of Dubuque, Luke “Mike” (Susan) Bakey, of Elk Grove, CA His sister-in-law Judy Bakey-Rahe and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence “Spots” Bakey and brothers-in-law Danny Grimes and Alfred Schuster.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Stonehill Care Center for all their wonderful care and especially becoming Dorrance's 2nd family.
In lieu of flowers a Dorrance Bakey memorial fund has been established.
