Duane Bradfield Obituary

Duane F. Bradfield, 85, of Dubuque, IA passed away unexpectedly at home March 9, 2019. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Post #6 of Dubuque.

Duane was born on March 22, 1933 in Epworth, IA. He was the son of Roy V. and Bertha F. (Chatfield) Bradfield. He attended school in Epworth, IA and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1955. Duane obtained an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Technology from NICC.

On June 23, 1956, he married June Bottoms at St. John's Episcopal Church, Dubuque. Together they raised four children: Linda (Grover) Weber of Cassville, WI; Cindy (Dave) George of Peosta, IA; Sue (Duane) Decker of Dubuque; and Mike (Lonnie) Bradfield of Anderson, IN. They were blessed with 13 grandchildren: Mandy (Craig) Enke; Melissa (Joel) Marley; Grover "Buddy" Weber IV; Jennifer (Nick) Brown; Megan Weber; Ashley Buol; Nathan Weber; Ryan Decker; Jordan (Kaitlyn) Weber; Adam Decker; Amber Decker; Tyler Bradfield; Molly Bradfield; and 13 great-grandchildren with another due in June.

Duane worked the majority of his life at the Dubuque Packing Company for 29 years. He later retired from Panels Unlimited. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Duane was a member of the UFCW Local 150-A, Moose Lodge 355 and the Dubuque Boat Club where he cherished all the friendships he made.

Duane loved fishing, hunting and having a few beers with his buddies. Later in life, he spent his time attending all events his grandchildren were a part of. When great-grandchildren came along, you could find him cheering them on in everything they did as well. They were the center of his world.

He is survived by his wife June, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters Natalie Heim and Ann (Lyle) Whalen, his in-laws Dorothy (Harlen) Robey, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Alfred and Marian Bottoms; siblings Mary (Maurice) Blocklinger, Janis Lewis, Robert "Butch" Bradfield; and his son-in-laws, Terry Schneider and Grover Weber III.

The family would like to thank the Dubuque Fire and EMS, and those who gave him health care and comfort over the last few years.
