Esther F Goedken

Esther F. Goedken, 85, of Dubuque, IA formerly of Zwingle, IA passed away at home on November 14, 2018 lovingly surrounded by her family.  

Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, Key West with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18th, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 4:00 p.m.

Esther was born on February 16, 1933 in Guttenberg, IA the daughter of Raymond and Amelia (Burr) Frommelt. She attended St Mary's Grade and High School in Guttenberg. She married Francis Goedken, on May 2, 1959 at St Mary's Church in Guttenberg.

She was an IBM operator until her marriage and later was an Avon Representative for 45 years.   

Esther was a devoted wife, caring mother and grandmother who was dearly loved.  She enjoyed any gatherings with family and friends, reading, gambling, playing cards, bowling and singing in the church choir.  

Survivors include her husband, Francis; daughter Staci (Joe) Hahn; and two grandsons, Ayden and Emerson Hahn, of Gilbertville, IA, brother-in-law, Robert Schreiber, of Dubuque and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Ready, of Iowa City, Janaan Vogt, Marlene Goedken both of Dubuque, IA, and Edith Goedken. Along with many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Reed Goedken; two brothers in infancy James and Gerald; sisters Amy (Louis) Matt, Jeanette Schreiber, Rosemary (Francis) Matt, Ruth (Cy) Von Fumetti; brothers-in-law Vernon Goedken, Duane (Marion) Goedken, Melvin (Ann) Goedken, Herbert (Regina) Goedken, John Goedken, Richard Goedken and Jim Vogt. Sister-in-law, Delores (Melvin) Miller, and a nephew Jay Matt.  

In lieu of flowers an Esther Goedken memorial fund will be established.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for their wonderful care, kindness and compassion to Esther and our family.
