Ethel E. “Sug” Hammel, 78, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 6th, 2017 at home.
Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10th, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, Key West with Rev. Rodney Allers officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 4:00 p.m.
Ethel was born on January 2, 1939 in Monfort, WI the daughter of Frederick and Nona (France) Bowden.
She worked for several Dubuque area businesses but mostly was a fulltime mom raising her 8 children.
She is survived by three sons Ken Hammel, of Dubuque, Gary (Tami) Hammel, of Zwingle, John (Tammy) Hammel, of Dubuque; four daughters, Karen (Mike) Blatz, of St. Catherine, Beth (Bud) Weydert, of Cameron, MO, Lisa Eubanks, of Dubuque, and Sharon (Terry) McAllister, of Washington, Iowa; 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Lillie Bowden and Janice Bowden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son John Thomas Hammel; daughter Mary Jo Hammel; granddaughter Stephanie Lee Sherwood; great granddaughter Gabriella Lebbie; three sisters Daisy Lang, Ruth Koresh and Evelyn Bowden; three brothers Francis Bowden, Joseph Bowden, and John Bowden.
