Eugene H. Zasada, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21st, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Deacon Bill Biver officiating. Military honors by the Dubuque Marine Corps League to follow services. Family and friends may gather after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home until time of service. Entombment will be at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Gene was born on May 30, 1934 in Crystal Lake, WI the son of George and Edna (Schave) Zasada. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
After high school he graduated from apprenticeship school and became a journeyman carpenter. He worked for John Deere in Dubuque for 32 years retiring in 1990.
On June 15th, 1979 he married Kaye Fransen in Dubuque.
Gene loved life, traveling, good cooking and following his grandchildren on Facebook. One of the highlights in his life was going on the Honor Flight to Washington DC with his son Dave in 2014.
He is survived by his wife Kaye; children, Randy (Karen) Zasada, of Brantwood, WI, Bill (Michelle) Zasada, of Platteville, WI, Tim (Julie) Zasada, of Platteville, WI, Dave (Missy) Zasada, of Darlington, WI, Brian Flynn, of St. Charles, IA, Mike Flynn, of Marysville, CA, Lori (Michael) Cates, of Greensboro, NC, John Flynn, of Marysville, CA, and Julie (Mark) Burdt, of Ankeny, IA; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Lenard, Jerry, George, Herb, Lorainne, and Sharon.
