Gary Dean Scheffert

Gary Dean Scheffert, 75, of Dubuque, IA passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque, with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating.

Gary was born on November 10, 1943 in Elkport, IA the son of Irwin H. and Mae E. (Bradley) Scheffert. He married Carol A. Lightfoot.

Gary loved to fish and go for motorcycle rides. He was also very handy when it came to painting and fixing cars.

He is survived by his wife; son, Gary Scheffert; daughter, Cheri Lynn Scheffert;, sister’s, Patty Thomas, Cheryl Birch, and Mary Scott; stepchildren, Jerry and Heidi Kelly, Kathryn Feuss, Roberta (Monte Bruggeman) Kelly and Beverly (Tim Theisen) Burdick; 16 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sandra Kay Donath and a stepson, Kevin Lightfoot.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and the nurses and staff at MercyOne Dubuque for the care and kindness they gave to Gary.
