Gloria Hope Ward, 90, of Dubuque, Iowa formerly of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Hawkeye Manor in Dubuque.
Family and friends of Gloria may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16th, 2017 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. Burial will be at a later date at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arizona.
Gloria was born on November 24, 1926 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Albert and Birdetta (Luttenberg) Giegerich, Jr. She received her education at the Academy of the Visitation. She married Roy Treanor in 1941 in Dubuque and they divorced eight years later.
Gloria worked at the family business, the Model Wallpaper and Paint Company in Dubuque. She met Gordon Ward and they married in 1955 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Together they had many interesting adventures.
They traveled to Lake of the Woods, Canada and built a cabin in the wilderness at the end of a dirt road.
Years later they resided in Mesa and Show Low, Arizona. Here Gloria began her career of winning at cooking and baking competitions large and small.
Gloria had many friends and she enjoyed playing in euchre and bridge clubs. She would never say no to a game of Scrabble.
She is survived by three brothers; Albert A. Giegerich, III, of Dubuque, John (special friend Trish) Giegerich, of Monticello, Iowa, Roger (Sandra) Giegerich, of Sebring, Florida; and 21 nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gordy; two sisters Mary Ann (John) Rolling, and Patricia Stoeckel and a niece Judy Simmons.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque, Hawkeye Care Center, Stonehill Care Center and all her friends at Ecumenical Towers.
