Helen Jacqueline McDonald

Helen Jacqueline "Jackie" McDonald, 94, of Peosta, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road in Dubuque, IA.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral Home with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Centralia, IA.

Jackie was born on November 21, 1923, in Georgetown, SC to Jasper and Janie Bell Johnson. She met her husband, William (Bill) McDonald, while he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. They married on November 15, 1946 in Georgetown. Bill brought his southern belle bride to his hometown of Peosta, IA where they built a home and family.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, 5 siblings and one son-in-law, Dan Melloy of Bernard. Surviving are her 7 children:  William (Diann) McDonald Jr., Janet (David) Bleymeyer, of Dubuque, Lisa Melloy of Bernard, Dennis McDonald, Carla (Mike)McCarthy of Peosta, Bruce (Jennifer) McDonald of Iowa City and Kris (Dirk)Smith of Cedar Rapids, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grand children and her only sister Amelia Blake of Georgetown, SC.

Jackie was an excellent seamstress and took great pride in her work. She was employed at Younkers in their alteration department for over 30 yrs. She loved dancing and music, always ready to hit dance floor. Jackie had a strong love of the beach and ocean where she grew up and visited there as often as she could.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shady Rest Care Facility in Cascade for their care and compassion during Jackie's stay.
