Jimmy D. Bateman, 80, passed away December 17, 2017 at his home. Private family services with military honors by American Legion Post #6 will be at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery. 

Jimmy was born August 28, 1937 in Dubuque, IA to Chauncey and Mildred (Hantelman) Bateman. He attended high school at Dubuque Senior. On February 6, 1984, he married Laura Husemann.

He was employed at Sisters of Charity-BVM for 27 years, he also served time with the United States Army from 1960-1963.

Jimmy loved fishing, playing pool, bowling, spending time with his family, and traveling around the United States with his brother Clyde and nephew Bobby.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years; two daughters, Jamie (Craig) Hoffmann and Carrie Shireman both of Dubuque. Five grandchildren, Jessica (Nate) Steffen, Jason Tuthill, Robert (Fiancé Kaitlyn Robinson) Tuthill, Jordan Shireman, and Jalynn Durrah. Six great grandchildren Cameron, Raelynn, Owen, Lamonte, Seriaha, and Harper. Sister-in-Laws Frieda (Jim) McConnell of East Dubuque and Judy Barnes of Cedar Rapids. Three Brother-in-Laws Henry (Cheryl) Husemann, Albert (Pat) Husemann, and Clarke Husemann who lives in France.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Chauncey and Mildred Bateman; Father and Mother-in-Law Ernest and MaryAnn Husemann; two brothers Clyde and Gerald; three sisters Zanta Miller, June Cottrell, and Janet; Sister-in-Laws Elnora Bateman and Maureen Husemann, Brother-in-laws Frank Barnes, Ernest Leroy Husemann, Carl Miller, and John Cottrell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Herman and Staff, Hospice of Dubuque,  Veteran’s Association, Vets Freedom Center, Mercy Health Center and Leonard Funeral Home.
