Being in Waterloo I just learned of Joan's passing. My mother,. Joanne Ruley was one of "the girls". You mom was always so good with my mother and always comforted her. Joan loved to talk to me about her memories of Waterloo as a kid with her uncles. I loved her! Blessings to her family who always kept my mom in their thoughts as well

Tim and family may your memories carry you through the upcoming days so you may feel peace and comfort. I always enjoyed meeting up with Joan and Walt during the holidays at the Flynns. Your mother was a very elegant and classy lady, not to mention a talented artist.

After meeting Tim just before Junior High I quickly became a regular guest at the Voigts' wonderful home. I enjoyed many excellent dinners there but my favorite was Joannie's "meat pie" (and she knew it)! I would almost always get an invite on the day it was being prepared. Joan was my "second mom" and I will never forget her words to me about the importance of true friendship. My love goes out to you Tim and Melinda.

Dear Tim, and everyone else. I'm sorry to get this news. Because of our great admiration and affection for you, it's painful to imagine your pain, and especially for a mother who was, herself, talented. That she returned to this love during her retirement is all the more touching. I can relate.
But, honestly, the most moving part was reading that she raised two children in a much-loved home. That is truly, the best gift of all. Blessings.

Though I never met Joan, I do know her son, Tim. If she was anything like her son, she no doubt was a remarkable woman. My sincere condolences to Tim and family.
