Kenneth R. “Ken” Erickson, 71, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

At Ken’s request, private services with burial to follow in Dubuque Memorial Gardens will be held. Military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the Tri State Vietnam Veterans. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road is in charge of arrangements.

Ken was born on February 8, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Harvey and Beatrice Marie (McCollough) Erickson.

He is a 16 year US Army veteran serving in Vietnam, Korea and Germany. He is a active member of Post #128 in Aberdeen, Maryland; in his later years her was a honorary member of Paralyzed Veterans of America, and the Disabled Veterans of America.

He was an owner and operator of a trucking business where he was a Long Haul Driver for many years until he had to retire due to becoming disabled from service connected health issues.

Ken enjoyed going to the Diamond Jo for his weekly entertainment and harassment. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badger’s and the Milwaukee Brewers; he also loved NASCAR and NHRA Drag Racing.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Maureen; his mother Beatrice (Jerry) Payne; two sisters Gloria Harrison and Kathryn Luher; two brothers David (Gayle) Erickson and Daniel Erickson; along with nieces, nephews and his Goddaughter Katie Erickson.

He was preceded in death by his father Harvey; two sisters Barbara Erickson and Sandra Kay Erickson in infancy.

The family request no flowers, memorials may be given to the Veterans Freedom Center or Make a Wish Foundation of Iowa.

The family would like to thank Hartig Home Care, Unity Point at Home in Dubuque, the PVA, Finley Hospital ICU staff, Health Care Spinal Team at the VA Hospitals in Iowa City and Minneapolis, and to Key West Fire & EMS for all their wonderful care they gave to Ken. A special thank you to Dr. Garrett Ridgley and Dr. Keith Shaw for their many life saving efforts.
