Louis was born at home December 12, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa, the last surviving child of Ludwig William and Frieda Marie Emma (Tietz) Husemann who immigrated from Germany to the United States in the early 1900’s.

He married Kathryn Elizabeth Doyle on October 26, 1946 at St. Raphael Cathedral, and they celebrated 66 wonderful years of marriage.   Kathryn passed away on February 2, 2013.

He worked at American Trust and Savings Bank as a Building Manager until his retirement in 1988. Previously Louie co-owned Husemann and Huseman Concrete Contractors. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Cathedral and past member of the Eagle’s Club.

Louie enjoyed listening to music, a good game of euchre or cribbage, a fall Octoberfest, a lively Polka song and his morning crossword puzzle (done in ink!).  His favorite way to spend an afternoon would be watching barges pass through Lock & Dam #11 on the Mississippi River.  He loved visiting with his children, grandchildren and neighbors, and would have a good crowd on his front porch. Through thick and thin his children provided him with love and care.

He is survived by his eight children: Jim (Kate) Husemann, Betsy (Jim) Basten, Steve (Rose) Husemann, Susan (Rich) Barrett, LouAnn (Mike) Wilson, Faye (Jim) Herrig, Connie (Randy) Mueller, and Carrie (Jeff) Burger;  twenty grandchildren;  Jim (Kristina) Husemann, Chris (Leslie Horton) Husemann, Jenny Miller, Kathy (Jeff) Welp, Alan (Molly) Basten, Susie (fiancé, Chad Kopp) Church, Louie (Pauline) Husemann, Kristie (Travis) Pfiffner, Lindsey (Joe) Schreiber, Jody (Ron) Kenneally, Marty (Kate) Barrett, Scott (Theresa) Wilson, Jason (Christina) Wilson, Kara (Scott) Hetzel, Gina (Matt Oberbroeckling) Schilling, Mike (Jessica) Mueller, Matt  (Jackie Rome) Mueller, Randy John Mueller, Morgan Burger, and Wyatt Burger; twenty-six great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Colleen Smith, Rose (Dick) Huseman, Betty Doyle and brother-in-law Louis Wagner.

He is preceded in death by wife Kathryn; parents Ludwig and Freida; three sisters, Dora (Howard) Schultz, Edith (Joe) Stack, Mary (Ted) Kalloway; nine brothers, Ernest (Mary Ann), Henry (Viorene), Bill (Olive), Al (Kate), Fred (Rose), Benjamin (Shirley), George (Mary), Rudolph (Bernice), and Carl (Gladys); sisters-in-law Evelyn, and Betty Wagner; and brothers-in-law, George Smith and Donald Doyle.

We would like to thank the Stonehill Skilled Rehab Household for their kindness in taking care of our  Dad.
