M. Patricia Tobin Obituary

Mary Patricia “Patty” Tobin, 63, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on November 08, 2018 at home surrounded by family.  

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where a wake service will be at 6:45p.m.

Patty was born on November 21, 1954 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of William M. and Mary Ellen (DeGear) Clemens Jr. She attended St. Joseph The Worker Grade School, graduated from Wahlert High School in 1973 and attended Iowa State University.

She married Terry Tobin on August 21, 1982 at the Church of the Nativity in Dubuque.

Patty worked for the Holy Family School System in the Wahlert High School Cafeteria and previously at the Hy-Vee on the NW Arterial. She spent many years as the director of the library at Resurrection School.

She volunteered with the Colts Youth Organization and enjoyed gardening, books, and traveling.

Patty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She valiantly fought three separate bouts with cancer.

She is survived by her husband Terry, of Dubuque; daughter Caren (Jacob) Sellers, of Iowa City, IA, son Andrew (Joshua Freeman) Tobin, of Madison, WI; two grandchildren Marcus and Maggie Sellers, of Iowa City, IA. Her brother M. Terrence (Chris) Clemens, of Northville, MI; brothers and sisters-in-law Dan & Kris Tobin, of Dixon, IL, and Bob & Mary Tobin, of Solon, IA; her niece and nephews, Jennie Clemens, Jim and Tony Clemens and Thomas and Nick Tobin. Patty also leaves behind her beloved dogs Ellie, Eddie, Lilly and her cat J.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her father and mother-in-law Thomas and Mary Tobin; and her brother William Michael Clemens III who passed in 1949 at 3 years old.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque or the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Hermann and his staff at Grand River Medical Center and Hospice of Dubuque, especially Melanie and Peggy for all their wonderful care, kindness and compassion.
