Mary Lou Wagener

Mary Lou Wagener, 74, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2019 in the comfort of her home with her husband and family surrounding her.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 12th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a wake service will be at 2:45 p.m.

Mary Lou was born on January 12, 1945 in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of Louis and Clara (Schueller) Gartner. She graduated from Wahlert High School in 1963 and on September 5, 1964 married Richard “Dick” Wagener at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dubuque. She worked at the Warehouse Market and then Econo Foods.

Mary was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest up until her last breath. She loved her family and had a million friends who were so close to her that she considered them family.

She is survived by her husband Richard; children, Mike (Kate) Wagener, of Springfield, IL, Kari (Keith) Gordon, of Huntingtown, Maryland, Linda (James) Wagener-Runde, of Dubuque, and Tom (Yabibet) Wagener of Chester, Maryland. Thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one on the way. Her sibling’s Eugene (Janie) Gartner, Grace Daughetee, and Joyce (Walter) Briggs; and a brother-in-law Larry Daughetee all of Dubuque; her sisters-in-law Mary Ruff, Betty (Bill) Speirs, and Elaine (Dave) Sadewasser; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin boys in infancy Patrick and James; her in-laws Paul and Marian Wagener; her brother Donnie; sisters Eileen (Herb) Lukas and Jane Daughetee; three brothers-in-law Lyle Daughetee, Fr. Don Wagener and Wayne Ruff and a nephew Jeff Gartner.
