Mirdza Woodward Obituary

Mirdza “Mitzi” Woodward 76 of Dubuque passed away Friday December 28, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. In keeping with her wishes a party for Mitzi will be held in the spring. The Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road is assisting the family.

Mitzi was born in Dobele, Latvija in Europe the daughter of Janis Alberts and Emilija (Amters) Freimanis. She married Michael “Woody” Woodward and he preceded her in death.

Mitzi graduated from the University of Dubuque and was a teacher for the Western Dubuque School System teaching English and German for many years. She later worked at Ennoble Manor Care facility in activities. She recently partnered with Resources Unite to establish a Pet Food Pantry to help the needy and their pets. She also loved to collect anything to do with pigs.

She is survived by her daughter Anna (Chad) Woodward-Klostermann of Dubuque, a sister Elly Russel in Latvia Europe, many nieces and nephews, her animal grandchildren and her very special neighbor and friend who she made a honorary sister Deborah Graf.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother in infancy.

The family request no flowers, instead a memorial fund will be established in care of Anna to benefit Mitzi’s favorite causes.
