Raymond Lee Potter

Raymond Lee Potter, 87, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on May 10th, 2019 at Eagle Point Place.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with military honors accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.

Ray was born on May 6, 1932 in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Byron and Myrtal (Wilkenson) Potter.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-1954.

Ray married Sandra Lee Bainbridge and together they had four children.

Ray worked for the Sinsinawa Mound and Mercy Hospital in Dyersville. He was a member of the American Legion and Party President for Dubuque Rugby Club.

He loved camping, the lake and woods, his Cabin and his Leisure Lake family. He enjoyed road trips and adventures, trap fishing, and he even tried a little biking with Doug. Hunting was a hobby he and Doug loved, but they were not very good at it, couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. He never missed a Rugby game or football game Doug played in. He enjoyed a cold pint and good food. Building projects with his brothers-in-law and son were a labor of love and much to be proud of. What he loved most though, was his family, the time spent with them was his greatest joy.

He is survived by his children, Sherry (James) O’Toole, Kristie (Scott) Pier, Douglas (Barb) Potter, and Debbie Potter along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Dusty and Bud and two sisters Adele and Shirley.
