Raymond J. Schmit

Raymond J. Schmit, 95, of Dubuque, Iowa died peacefully in his sleep November 19, 2018 at home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road with Deacon Bill Biver officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory.

Raymond was born September 9,1923. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1948 where he met Henni Moeck. They married on October 16,1948 in Wurzburg, Germany.

He is survived by his four children; Rick Schmit, Tim (Georgia) Schmit, Vickie Burdt, and Kathy (Gordie) Dailey.  His five grandchildren Jonathan (Jenny) Burdt, Timmy (Kim) Schmit, Jessica (Scott) Young, Melissa (Todd) Spoerl and Andrew Dailey. Ray has seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Jackson, Easton, Nolan, Joscelyn, Brooklyn and Jace.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dominic and Susan (Dress) Schmit; his wife Henni; his 8 siblings and their spouses; his son-in-law Jeff Burdt; and his Grandson Jeremiah Burdt.

The family requests no flowers, in lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.
