Roger Alfred Konrardy

Roger A. Konrardy, 72, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2019, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa with Rev. Steven Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with military honors by the Dubuque Marine Corps League and the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans.

Visitation will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Sunday, February 24, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. where a wake service will be held at 12:45 p.m. Family and friends may also gather after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church until time of mass. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, Dubuque, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.                   

Roger was born November 25, 1946, in LaMotte, Iowa, the son of Burnell and Mathilda (Arensdorf) Konrardy. He graduated high school from Holy Rosary High School in LaMotte, Iowa. He then served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Vietnam era. After his service, he graduated from Indian Hills Community College. He was a member of the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association in Dubuque, Iowa.

Roger owned and operated Konrardy Carpet Cleaning Service in Dubuque, Iowa for 32 years. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, collecting antiques, and designing and inventing personal projects. The joy of his life was spending time playing games, attending sporting events, and giving rides on the lawn tractor with his grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia.

He married Mary Conlan at St. Patrick's Garryowen on July 20, 1973, and they were happily married for 45 years. They shared many fun trips in the various cars that Roger restored.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; children Tony (Gretchen) Konrardy, of Dubuque, Matt Konrardy (Cassie) of Dubuque; and grandchildren Ryan and Olivia; siblings Gene (Doris) Konrardy, of LaMotte, Paul (JoAnn) Konrardy, of LaMotte, Donna (Lorin) Sieverding of Bellevue, Vern (Nancy) Konrardy, of LaMotte, Allan (Anita) Konrardy, of LaMotte, Kate (Jim) Michela, of Bellevue, Loren (MaryJo), Konrardy, of LaMotte.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Geraldine and her husband, Harry Osterkamp, and his nephew, Phil Konrardy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Tri-State Vietnam Veterans Association, Clarity Clinic or Dubuque County Right to Life.

The family wishes to thank the quick response of Dubuque Fire and EMS in their assistance with Roger. The family also extends their deepest appreciation to the staff of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center Emergency Room and ICU departments, especially Dr. Kevin Zettek and Dr. Lane Noble. A special note of gratitude to Father Raphael and Chaplain Daniel Granger for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.
