Ronald A. Hiris, 49, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Long Island, NY, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack in his sleep on April 8th, 2019.
Ron’s life will be remembered from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Bill Biver officiating.
Ron graduated from Herricks High School in New York in 1987. His love for carpentry and construction was evident early on, as he held various positions in the field in New York. Over time, he became a gifted master carpenter in the Long Island area, eventually leading his own crew.
Ron married Sandra Krause of Galena, IL, and relocated to Dubuque in 2005. He soon started working for Queck Capital Management, where his combination of carpentry skills, creativity, and organization helped him advance to Operations Manager. In this position, he designed and managed countless home renovations in the Dubuque area. He continued in this role for GRTD Rentals, his employer at the time of his passing.
Ron often said work was game of chess that he loved playing. He was a problem solver who could make anything run smoothly. He was always on the front line meeting every challenge—no matter how nasty—and amassed an interesting collection of stories in the process. He took great pride in his crew and valued the relationships he developed with the many contractors he worked with over the years.
Ron will be deeply missed by his beloved family, children Jacob, 17, and Sara, 11, of Dubuque; parents, Lorene and Hermann Hiris of Fort Salonga, Long Island, NY; brothers, Robert with his wife Kristen, of Kings Park, NY, and Peter with his wife Wendy, of Henderson, NV; four beloved nephews—Jack, Max, Wyatt, and Matthew Hiris; his loving aunts and uncles, Helma & Albert Erbacher and Maria & Matthew Sturm, and beloved friend, Todd.
