Victor A. Prevatt

Victor A. Prevatt Jr. 87, of Dubuque, IA passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer with his loving wife and special niece Vicki at his side on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville, WI. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Funeral Home.

Vic was born in Dubuque, IA on September 17, 1931 the son of Victor A. and Mary (McLaughlin) Prevatt. He graduated high school from the Loras Academy. On January 13, 1979 he married the love of his life, Loretta Spease.

Vic worked for the Dubuque Packing Company for 28 years before retiring. In 1984 he moved to San Antonio, TX and worked for Star Food. After retirement from there he moved back to Dubuque and worked part time at Coca Cola for 10 years.

Christmas was very special to Vic. He loved to decorate and loved playing Santa Claus. He would always make sure to have Candy Canes for the kids. 

Vic enjoyed five wonderful winters in Florida. He loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. He loved boating and traveling, most of all he loved his wife Loretta.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, son, Tom Prevatt of Tucson, AR; two stepsons, Kelvin (Cathy) Orton of Sun Prairie, WI and Derek Orton of Dubuque, two grandsons, Joseph and William Orton of Sun Prairie, WI; a sister, Nancy Dolan of Dubuque; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and James Udelhoven of Edgerton, WI; several nieces and nephews and a very special friend and Neighbor Charlie Klein.

Vic was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dorrance Prevatt and a brother-in-law, Albie Dolan.
