Ann McClain, 86, of Dubuque, Iowa passed away on September 17, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where a funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Leah Barker officiating. A private family burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Ann was born on January 17th, 1937, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond & Gertrude (Winders) Schmerbach. She graduated from Senior High School and was united in marriage to Duane “Wayne” McClain on September 15, 1956.
She started her working career at Sears where she worked for 20 years and then was employed by the Archdiocese of Dubuque until her retirement at age 67.
Some of Ann’s greatest pastimes include gathering for bingo at the KC Hall on Thursday nights. Along with her husband, she enjoyed playing cards with friends/family and then after her husband’s passing played with her friends in a card club. She looked forward to her monthly luncheons with her brothers & sisters and also her Friday night dinners out. She liked to go on bus trips and try her luck at the casino. She loved life and the people around her. Ann was very proud of her children & their families. Her favorite saying was “Love you to the moon & back”.
She is survived by her three children, Ron "Jonesy" (Chris) McClain, Lori (Dennis) Weig of Dubuque, and Carol (Larry) Foht of Benton, WI. 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers Buster (MaryJane) and David (Penny); sisters Rosie (Tex), and Mary; sisters-in-law Sally, Roberta & Betty and brother-in-law Mick and her life-long best friend, Jackie Larkin.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, son Jerry, daughter Kathy and her husband Brian. Her sisters, Shirley, Marilyn and her husband Mac, and her brothers Bobby, Kenny & Skip and brother-in-law Ron Walters.
In lieu of flowers, an Ann McClain Memorial Fund has been established.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Jennifer Moore and her nurse Emily, and the Cardiac Unit at Mercy One, especially Katie & Tammy.
