Dan was born on February 5, 1955, in Dubuque, Iowa the son of Eldon and Veronica (Boet) Reiter. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Dubuque Senior High School.

Dan worked for the Dubuque Boy's and Girl's Club since October of 1969. He started as a member at the Club when it was located at 9th and Iowa Streets as a youngster. He then started working part time at the Club in the coatroom.

Dan began his fulltime employment at the Club in 1973 in the Maintenance Department.  He had been employed at the Club for over 51 years. He knew the ins and outs of all the plumbing, electrical, and heating & cooling systems.  Whenever something needed to be fixed such as a basketball rim, scoreboard, pool or ping pong table, and this list goes on, Dan was the man.

The Meal program started in 1996 and Dan led that program since its inception. Dan forged many wonderful partnerships with organizations in the Dubuque community as a result of the Meal program.  He really took that program to the next level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.  They have served in excess of 145,000 nutritious meals. Without Dan's dedication to this program, much of this wouldn't have been possible.

Dan (Boys Club) partnered with the West Dubuque Jaycees in the bb gun (air-rifle) program.  Dan led the program that won several state titles and attended many national tournaments.

Dan led a group along with the Board of Directors, Booster Board of Directors and many volunteers in offering riverboat bingo and bingo at the Club.  Whatever Dan undertook, he did it the passion of no other.

The Hardees/Boys Club Baseball Classic was another endeavor Dan started.  Board member Dennis Slowey and his partner Pete Oeth partnered with Dan and the Club in hosting one of the biggest baseball tournaments in the area back in the 80's and 90's.

Dan also spearheaded the Technology program and was self-taught how to build and fix computers.  In the 2000’s, Dan started teaching our members how to build computers with component parts.  This was a program the children at the Club really embraced.

There really wasn't anything Dan couldn’t or wouldn’t do for our members at the Club. He will be missed by so many and will never forgotten.

He is survived by his brother Michael (Karen Spiegelhalter) Reiter; his nephew William “Bill” Reiter; nieces Laura (Greg) Willging, and Jenni (Eric) Farrey; four great nieces and nephews; Alexander Vaassen, Abigail Willging, Andrew Willging and Jonathan Farrey.

Surviving also are many special friends, especially Gail George Stoffel and Nicholas D. Jones along with his co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Veronica (Boet) Reiter and his brother Patrick Reiter.
