David Raab Obituary

David J. Raab, 80, of Dubuque passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd. Dubuque. A funeral service will follow at noon with Rev. Dianne Grace officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

David was born on November 8, 1943 and was adopted by his parents Arthur and Macil Raab. He married the love of his life Beatrice Raab on March 1, 1975 in Dubuque. Together they shared over 46 years of marriage. Bea preceded him in death on September 22, 2021.

Dave worked many years at the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Belvidere, IL before retiring in 1996. His goal was to be retired for as long as he worked. He was a proud UAW member.

Dave loved to watch his western movies and listen to the oldies on his radio. He and his daughter Sheila had a love for scary movies and always enjoyed watching them together. Dave was always content being at home watching his TV and playing on his tablet. He loved his TikTok and sending videos to friends and family. He loved when his nephew Dane Steiner would swing in throughout the week to visit. He was always willing to help him with whatever he needed. The company of Jill Linsey is also something he always enjoyed, the care she provided to Dave will not be forgotten. Dave was an amazing husband and loving father. He will be dearly missed by all who love him.

He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Ryan Smith; his son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Carey Raab; granddaughters, Leah and Scarlett; sisters, Sharon Oberste of Dubuque, Nora (David) Karshbaum of Drummond, WI, Sue (Stan) Bonnet of East Dubuque, IL, Robin (Pete) Muenster of Dubuque, and Peggy Lehman of East Dubuque, IL; brothers, Ken (Barb) Karwoski of Viroqua, WI and Larry (Brenda) Cox of Bellevue, IA.

David was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Bea; his beloved dog Lily and other close friends and family members.

Memorials may be given to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center for all the care they provided to David.

From Sheila: To my Daddy- I will always be your little girl! My heart hurts, but I know you are so happy to be with mom again. Arrivederci, Ciao, I love you Daddy!
