Gregory Allan Dolter, 61, of Dubuque, passed away on October 5, 2023, at home, of natural causes. The son of Gerald and Clara (Heiderscheit) Dolter, he was born on December 13, 1961. He was a lifelong resident of Dubuque. A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at the Hafeman Veranda at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 4-7 PM.
Greg attended Nativity Elementary School and graduated from Wahlert High School in 1980. He worked as a custodian for Nativity School, Mercy Hospital, and Dubuque Community Schools; he also worked at Vanguard Counter Tops.
Greg enjoyed spending time and playing games with family and friends. One of his favorite activities at family gatherings was quizzing his siblings about episodes of Star Trek. He was able to quote both Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock at will. He also had a clever quote for every occasion.
Greg had strong mechanical skills and was always willing to lend a helping hand to people who didn’t. And to people who thought they did, but really didn’t.
Kids were drawn to Greg because he was funny and kind and because he made them feel special.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles. He will be sincerely missed by his wife, Ruth (Bell) Dolter, siblings Patricia (Dennis) Bries, Susan Dolter, Gerald (Karen) Dolter, Jr., Jeffrey (Mira) Dolter, Kristie (David) Kirmse, daughter-of-the-heart Natalie Marchuk, and many nieces and nephews.
A hardworking and unassuming man, Greg touched countless lives and brought joy to those around him.
