Imelda "Imy" A. Sherman passed away on November 22, 2024 after a long, good life of 100 years.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4th, 20225 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Dubuque. Visitation for Family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow the mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
Born to John and Apollonia (Sturm) Portz in Bellevue, Iowa on October 5, 1924, Imy loved to play basketball as a kid and throughout High School for the Bellevue Bee's of (now known as) Marquette High of Bellevue! After High School she went on to become a nurse, and work in that capacity in Minnesota, Alaska, Washington St., Iowa, Texas, and finally Wisconsin where she met and married Norbert in 1954 until his death in 2005.
As a wife, and mother she loved and supported her husband and family in Cedar Rapids, Milwaukee, Louisville, and finally in Dubuque.
Throughout her life she took part in daily Mass and the Rosary; volunteered with the Little Sisters of the Poor; supported St. Jude's Children Hospital, the Salvation Army, and EWTN; avidly followed the Big Bands especially Glenn Miller; loved playing golf; enjoyed card-playing of Bridge, Euchre, and UNO; cherished friendships wherever she lived; travelled to Korea, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Rome; watched movies--especially if they had a romantic side, while never giving up her love of basketball especially for Marquette, and wherever Caitlin Clark played! But most of all, Imy loved the Lord, and always was quick to remind her sons to "Remember, God is in charge!"
Imy is survived by her three sons, Thomas SJ, Robert, and Paul; as well as four grandchildren Matthew, John, Jim, and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren Mikayla, Arielle, and Cillian,
Imy will be missed, honored, and remembered by all she touched throughout her happy life.
