Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10th at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd.

Irene was the daughter of Frank and Della McNamer and born on Kelly Lane in Dubuque Iowa. She attended Sunday school at the Rockdale United Methodist Church where she also married her school sweetheart on May 24, 1942. They began farming in the area near the airport. When moving to Sherrill, Irene was active in the Sherrill Methodist Church being a Sunday school teacher and a bible school teacher for many years. She received a lifetime membership in the Women Society and was a board member for several years. She also became the Young Adult president and consular of the youth group. Irene loved working with the youth and made many friends in the Sherrill area. She was a 4-H leader of the Peru Pepperettes for 10 years and also a Women's Farm Bureau member working with the members to obtain funds to build the food stand at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds. Irene loved to sew and her children often volunteered her to make many costumes for Christmas and other holidays at school. Irene worked at John Deere and for Earl Moore at the Sherrill Locker & Meat Plant until they moved to Bellevue. When Eldon and Irene moved to Bellevue, Irene became a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Ruth Circle. She was the food manager of the Bellevue Community Schools for 10 years retiring after Eldon retired. They owned and operated the Plaines View Dairy Farm with their daughter and son-in-law, Ardell and Deb Weis and grandson Zach and Kayla Weis until they retired in 2010. Irene compiled all the information and pictures published in the "The Waller and McNamer Family History Books." She loved doing this all of her life and had collected articles from the newspapers and pictures of family and friends. She always tried to put a little joy in everyone's life and if she didn't, at least she tried. She was a doll collector and had over 400 dolls starting with dolls with her family names. She loved the Lord, husband and daughters and spent many hours with her grandchildren. She often wished that they all lived closer so she could spend more time with all of them and when she knew they were going to visit, she baked or cooked their favorite food. Each child was very special to her. She loved to give parties in her younger years and she thought that maybe she would become a party planner for celebrations. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she wanted all her family to come to her house where she cooked the traditional holiday meal for all of them. Many times there were 40 people. Friends of the family were also welcome. She liked to decorate the house and sometimes she put up seven Christmas trees.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Thomas) Waterman, Dubuque Iowa, Deb (Ardell) Weis Bellevue Iowa.
