James J. “Jim” Schadl 77 of Dubuque passed away Monday November 19, 2018 at home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road where friends may gather after 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post #6.
Jim was born on December 7, 1940 in Dubuque the son of Joseph and Geraldine (Hillard) Schadl. He graduated from Loras Academy and entered the United States Air Force. He married Dorothy Herbst on June 30, 1962, she preceded him in death on October 31, 2007.
He entered the U.S. Navy Reserves and served for 20 years and served when called upon in the Philippians and during the Persian Gulf War. He worked for B & G Auto, Sieg Dubuque Co., Diamond Vogl Paint and lastly worked for PER-MAR Security.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #6 and the Dubuque Eagles Club. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed being outdoors.
He is survived by his three sons Jeff (Linda) Schadl, Kevin Schadl, and Tom (Tricia) Schadl, five grandchildren Amy, Tim, Kim, Serena, and Alicia, five great grandchildren, Kyra, Stella, Jemma, Milly, and Sophia, and a brother John Schadl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister Joann Parker.
In lieu of flowers a James Schadl memorial fund has been established.
