A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday October 7, 2024 at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon David Roth officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #6. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Jeff was born on May 22, 1959 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John and Barbara (Waddell) Ransom. He graduated from Senior High School in Dubuque, Iowa. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended Northeastern Iowa Community College, where he got his welding certification through the GI Bill. Jeff worked 25 years as a welder at EJ. Voggenthaler. Most recently, he owned Offside Bar & Grill Sports Complex wit his business partner Dekker Pfab, and was also a manager there.

Jeff served his community well volunteering for 40 years with American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) rising through the ranks eventually serving on the National Board of Directors, a position he was most proud of. Continuing his commitment to youth soccer, he volunteered as commissioner of the Iowa Games Winter Indoor Soccer for 32 years. Although never playing the sport, he had a passion for the game, wanting to make sure all youth had the opportunity to learn and play soccer. He valued the philosophies of AYSO and worked continuously to protect those values and ensure all kids played, no matter their ability. He was also proud of the fact he helped, along with other volunteers, to develop and maintain the Dubuque Soccer Complex for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, daughter Amy (Brian) Ehlers, son Brian (Megan) Ransom, grandchildren Tyler, Natalie, Bryce, Blake and Charlie, his brother Jim (Janet) Ransom, brother-in-law Denny (Cindy) McInerney, sister-in-law Sharon (Jim) Koch, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister LeAnn Scott, his mother and father-in-law, Jim and Marilyn McInerney and brother-in-law John McInerney.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Andrea Ries and Angie, Dr. Eric Engelman, Diane Oglesby, the staff at Medical Associates Oncology and Hospice of Dubuque for their support and kindness. A special thank you to the staff at Stonehill Communities Skilled Household - your dedication to your patients is unmatched.
