Jack was born on July 4th, 1942, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Lester John and Florence Marie (Bresee) Peil. He was united in marriage to Janice Merz in December of 1968. He worked as a truck driver at Flexsteel Industries for 35 years, and before that he was a city bus driver for Dubuque.
In 1984, Jack was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed helping others learn about the Bible’s promises. His strong faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection back to life on a paradise earth helped him remain positive and loyal to his God, Jehovah, to his death.
Jack loved fishing, playing cards, putting puzzles together, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Janice, four children Trina (Gary) Holz, Tyrone (Sarah), Tammy, and Tim (Rebekah), ten grandchildren Meghan, Brandon (Stephanie), Caleb, Benjamin, Ella (Marco), Micaiah, Ezra, Shawn, Colin, and Danny, two great-granddaughters Oakley and Draven, sister Diane (Gerald) Overturf, brother Robert (Nancy), nieces and nephews, and many many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Florence, and brothers Raymond and William.
In lieu of flowers, a John “Jack” L. Peil Memorial Fund has been established.
Thank you to our many friends for all your support, encouragement, and generosity. Special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, especially nurses Jessica, Amber, Hayle, Kristin, Adrienne, and Diane.
