Joseph William Morong

Joseph William Morong, 68, of Dubuque, IA passed away on February 11, 2020 at UnityPoint Health, Finley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Phillip Gibbs and Deacon Mike Ellis officiating. Family and friends may gather after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery

Joe was born on January 12, 1952, the son of Barbara and Joseph Morong Sr. He graduated from Galena, Illinois High School. He married Mary Jones, August 18, 1972 at St. Columbkille Church in Dubuque, IA.

He worked endlessly and with great skill at John Deere Dubuque Works for 18 years, Brown Publishing, and several other manufacturing companies. In later years he loved working at Goodwill where he made many friends.

Joe loved music and loved singing in the St. Columbkille Choir and attending Christian Education Week.

Joe will always be remembered for his selflessness, great enthusiasm, kindness, and spontaneous laughter. He was devoted to his family, especially his grandson Geoffrey. He loved to play cards and going to the movies with his daughter, Melinda.

Joe is survived by his daughter Melinda (Jeff) Morong; grandson Geoffrey Hinzman; sisters: Rita (Randy) Lessman, Deb (Max) Gordon, Shirley  (Tom) Nehrkorn, Chris  (Larry) Quimby and Linda Samuels; sister-in-law: Kathy (Steve) Sievers, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
