Obituary

Kollin John Campbell died unexpectedly in the early morning hours on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Celebration of life for Kollin will be held @ Convivium Urban Farmstead on Friday August 25th @ 2811 Jackson from 5pm to 7pm.

He was born on November 15, 2006, a minute after his twin sister Kylee, in Dubuque, IA to Holly Campbell and Chris Baumgartner.

Kollin was an old soul and people were drawn to him and his contagious smile and people were surprised to learn that he was only 16 years old. While Kollin only walked (more recently ran) this earth for a very short time, he left a long-lasting imprint on all that knew him.

Like many young people, school wasn’t really his thing, even though he was wise beyond his years. He eventually found a home at Cornerstone Academy, thanks to the morning wake up calls and personal rides to school with Tori Curoe, even though it didn’t seem like it, he was always happy to see her. (Thank you for being so wonderful to my son.) Then Kollin moved up to a different part of the program & crossed paths with Jim McCreary who was also lucky enough to take over the morning pick up. I can’t begin to thank you both, for bringing Kollin out of his shell from quiet to outgoing, funny and health nut (thanks Jim).

Mr. McCreary introduced him to Convivium Urban Farmstead which soon became his second home. Kollin was a jack of all trades including maintenance tasks, landscaping. He then began working in the restaurant, washing dishes (which was his least favorite task) and then eventually greeted and seating guests, which he excelled at, Kollin was a talker. He was most recently promoted to summer farmhand.

Kollin loved being downtown and getting to meet all kinds of people. Kollin’s big thing is he always wanted to make a difference, whether it was going to grab some burgers from mc ds for his homeless buddies or just having a conversation and being a good listener. He had a huge heart and loved helping anyway he could. He was always out and bout going to the Millwork Market and dancing it up with his friend Olivia. He also made sure to hit the farmers market and local festivals that may have been going on. He supported his hometown in any way he could.

Kollin spread his own brand of joy and goofiness to everyone he encountered even at the many Central City Airsoft competitions with his long-time best friend Maddox. He also had lots of love for his little buddy, his cat Lil Pump, oh and definitely can’t forget his partner in crime his twin sister a.k.a. special K to Kollin, what one didn’t think of the other one did they shared a special connection. Kollin enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, fishing, and grilling out with the family.

Kollin is survived by his parents Holly Campbell of Dubuque; his father Chris Baumgartner (Stephanie) of Dubuque; twin sister Kylee Campbell of Dubuque; maternal grandparents Connie Sharkey & Bill Campbell both of Dubuque; paternal grandfather Dan Baumgartner; great grandmother Teresa Hanson; his uncle William Campbell (Katie) & their two boys; his aunt Alisha Winger (Jeremy) and their two children; his uncle Danny Baumgartner, and his daughter.

Kollin is preceded in death by great grandparents Diane & Dennis Sharkey, great uncle Jeffrey Sharkey, great grandfather William Campbell and his paternal grandmother Ann Riniker.
