Laure Ann McDonough, 62, entered peacefully into eternal life January 25, 2025, in the loving arms of her beloved spouse at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, after a sudden and heroic battle with Strep A sepsis pneumonia.
The Mass of Christian burial will take place Thursday, January 30th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Dubuque, IA, with Fr. Steve Rosonke officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary, Dubuque, IA. A livestream of the Mass may be found at the time of the service on St. Anthony's website https://www.stanthony-dubuque.org/live. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church. The Rosary will be said at 3:30 p.m. at the church.
Laure was born January 19th, 1963, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of James and Jeanne (Gilligan) Meyer.
Laure will forever be remembered for her tender heart, gracious care, and love she gave to all she encountered in life. For 34 years she worked as a medical technologist/scientist in the lab, at Medical Associates, devoting her life to the health and well being of all the patients and staff that walked through the door. Laure was lovingly called “lab mom” from a lot of her coworkers, past and present. Laure loved her coworkers and enjoyed her job, and was about to retire in just days.
She was the dearest of friends to those that knew her. A woman of great faith, she radiated the joy of Christ and cherished her community at St. Anthony’s. There she volunteered in many aspects. Most memorable would be her devotion to the love of Christ through the Emmaus Community. Through Laure’s joyous love, many travelers felt the light, warmth and love of Christ.
Beyond measure, Laure loved her husband, Michael. They were united in marriage June 2, 1984, at Sacred Heart Church Dubuque, IA. Together they raised a beautiful family, and loved their two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kristen, in Dubuque, IA. Laure and Michael loved going for walks, and spending time (especially vacations) with family. Their grandchildren were their pride and joy as they would cheer on Braeden, Adelaide, Vincent, Theodore, Emmalyn, Violet, Wyatt and Ralph at every stage of life.
Laure is survived by her husband, Michael; daughters, Kaitlyn (Ryan) Berning, Kristen (Adam) Shaffer; Mother-in-law Constance McDonough (Nicks); Grandchildren, Braeden, Adelaide, Vincent, Theodore, Emmalyn, and Ralph Berning, Violet and Wyatt Shaffer; siblings, Jim and Jo McVay, Kris Jacobson and Jim Bishop, Mike and Janie Meyer, John Meyer, Jeff and Tina Meyer, and brother-in-law Pete Herber; sister and brother in laws, Diane and Steve Maas and Joe and Nancy McDonough, and many other godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Laure is preceded in death by parents James and Jeanne Meyer, father-in-law Thomas McDonough, and sister Judy Herber.
In Lieu of flowers, a Laure McDonough Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of St. Anthony’s Parish in Dubuque and St. Joseph’s School Endowment Fund in Sinsinawa, WI.
